PWD Proposes New Route To Reduce Traffic Congestion In Pune, Multinodal Corridor To Provide Access From Marathwada To Mumbai

Pune, 1st May 2023: The Public Works Department (PWD) has proposed a new route, Shirur-Khed-Karjat, to ease traffic congestion on the Ahmednagar-Pune road. This new route will provide an alternative to traffic coming from Marathwada and Shirur to reach Mumbai, and the traffic coming to Pune will go directly to Karjat via Shirur-Khed. This will save time and reduce traffic stress on the Pune-Mumbai highway.
Currently, vehicles coming from Marathwada can take the Chakan-Shikrapur-Talegaon route to reach Mumbai. However, due to the MIDCs at Chakan and Shirur, there is heavy vehicular congestion on city roads. At present, there is only one way for cargo vehicles.
The proposed route is about 135 km long and will be known as the Multinodal Corridor. It will have four levels, and the proposal has been submitted to the Maharashtra state government for approval.
“At present, there is a lot of traffic on city roads due to the MIDCs at Chakan and Shirur. The proposed route will provide an alternative and ease the traffic congestion on Ahmednagar Road,” said Atul Chavan, Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department.
If approved, the new route will be a welcome relief for motorists and cargo vehicles traveling to and from Pune, Mumbai, and Marathwada.
