Qawwali, Voice, & Devotion: ‘Yatra with Aanchal’ comes to Pune

Koregaon Park, 20th May 2025: Qawwali, the soul-stirring Sufi art form that has echoed through centuries in shrines and mehfils, is now finding renewed expression in contemporary spaces. Yet, it remains a rare sight to see a woman take center stage in this deeply traditional genre. Aanchal Shrivastava is one of those few, breaking the mould with grace, power, and authenticity.
On May 24, Pune music lovers will witness something truly special—”Yatra with Aanchal – Pune Edition”, an immersive evening of music, poetry, and storytelling, hosted at the Monalisa Kalagram, Koregaon Park, 7 PM onwards. After receiving overwhelming love in Mumbai, Aanchal brings this intimate mehfil-style performance to Pune for the first time.
Adding to the evening’s allure, the event will open with a poetry recital by Garima Mishra, the founder of the poetry collective कविताKAFE. Her evocative verses promise to set the perfect tone for the night’s soulful journey.
“Yatra with Aanchal is more than a concert—it’s a celebration of art, spirit, and the timeless magic of music. It is an experience in which each performance unfolds like a conversation—with Sufi and Hindustani classical influences flowing seamlessly into narratives of love, longing, and transcendence,” says Aanchal, who with her signature husky voice and poetic depth, is reclaiming the qawwali space through a feminine lens—evocative, powerful, and deeply personal.
Aanchal’s musical journey includes collaborations on Coke Studio Pakistan, soundtrack contributions to Amazon Prime’s Four More Shots Please, and her Bollywood debut with Mahesh Bhatt’s Love Games. With viral hits like Kadi Aao Ni and Ishq Akela, she has carved a space of her own in India’s indie and Sufi music scene.
