Heavy Rains Cause Tree Falls In Pimpri-Chinchwad: Five Injured In Two Separate Incidents

Pimpri-Chinchwad, 20th May 2025: In the aftermath of heavy rains, Pune witnessed two separate tree-fall incidents that left five people injured. One occurred on Sunday (18th May) night in Dapodi’s Limbore Wasti, while the other took place on Monday (19th May) afternoon in Akurdi. All injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment at local hospitals.
The first incident took place around 10:45 pm on Sunday when a large peepal tree collapsed onto a house in Limbore Wasti, Dapodi. The residence, made of cement and tin sheets, was occupied by the Samudre family. Three members of the family—Shraddha Sunil Samudre (12), Paru Sunil Samudre (35), and Sunil Samudre (40)—sustained injuries after tree branches broke through the roofing material and fell inside. Local residents quickly responded and rushed the injured to the hospital.
The second incident occurred on Monday around 2:30 pm near the Akurdi vegetable market. Aman Khan (22), a resident of Walhekarwadi in Chinchwad, and Sahil Khan (24), from Panchtaranagar in Akurdi, were sitting and chatting on a parked two-wheeler under a decaying tree when it suddenly collapsed on them. Both men were injured and were rescued by bystanders who cleared the branches to free them.
The fallen tree also obstructed traffic in the area. Firefighters arrived promptly, cut the branches, and cleared the road, restoring normal traffic flow.
These incidents underscore the growing risk of tree falls during monsoon season, particularly in areas with aging or weakened trees. Civic authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious and report unstable trees to prevent further accidents.
