Ranchi, 7th February 2024: Amidst the recent divergence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) from the alliance with the Congress for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi reaffirmed Mamata Banerjee’s continued inclusion in the INDIA alliance. Rahul Gandhi made this statement during his ongoing ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in Gumla, emphasizing that negotiations regarding seat-sharing are underway within the alliance.

Rahul Gandhi clarified that Mamata Banerjee remains an integral part of the INDIA bloc, alongside other alliance members. He described ongoing discussions over seat distribution as a routine aspect of coalition politics.

Mamata Banerjee had recently declared that the TMC would contest the Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal independently, accusing the Congress of aligning with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) to indirectly support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks regarding the BJP’s commitment to the welfare of Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Rahul Gandhi criticized Modi’s inconsistency and called for a caste census to accurately assess social demographics.

Regarding Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s departure from the INDIA alliance to join the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Rahul Gandhi hinted at underlying factors influencing Kumar’s decision. Nevertheless, he affirmed the Congress’s determination to contest the Bihar elections as part of the INDIA alliance.
