Railway: Pune Division Surpasses Goods Traffic Revenue Target for FY 2024-25

Pune, 25th March 2025: Pune Division, Central Railway, has exceeded its Goods Traffic revenue target for the financial year 2024-25 under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Verma and Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Dr. Milind Hirwe, IRTS. The division achieved a total revenue of ₹524.14 crore, surpassing the target of ₹506.80 crore by 3.4%, well before the completion of the financial year.
Significant Growth in Sugar Traffic
A major contributor to the revenue surge was the growth in sugar traffic. The division recorded a notable increase in the number of rakes dispatched and the revenue generated:
In 2023-24, 335 rakes were dispatched, generating ₹231.56 crore.
In 2024-25, 442 rakes have been loaded, contributing ₹306.41 crore to the revenue.
This marks a 32% rise in sugar traffic compared to the previous year.
Introduction of Molasses Loading as New Traffic Stream
In addition to sugar, Pune Division introduced molasses as a new traffic stream during the current financial year. Molasses is being loaded from Miraj, Shrigonda, Belapur, and Karad to destinations across Southern India, including Manamadurai Junction, Chipurupalle, Tiruchchirappalli, and Nellaikuppam. 24 rakes of molasses loaded.
Revenue generated from molasses traffic: ₹15.15 crore.
Operational Strategy and Performance
The division’s revenue achievement reflects the strategic measures and operational efficiency driven by the leadership of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Dr. Milind Hirwe and Senior Divisional Operating Manager Dr. Ramdas Bhise. The team’s efforts have resulted in improved freight handling and optimized loading operations, contributing significantly to the division’s performance.
