New Delhi, 17th October 2022: In the financial year of 2021-2022, the Indian Railways has earned Rs 17,526.48 crores from the special train services.
This accounts for about 45 per cent of the total passenger revenue for this financial year. This information has been received in response to a question asked under the Right to Information (RTI).

In May 2020, when the railways resumed passenger train services during the coronavirus pandemic, only special train services were started. This decision was taken so that few people may travel during the pandemic.

The said RTI application was put by Chandrashekhar Gaur. In response, the Railways said that in the FY 2019-20, before the epidemic, the Railways got a revenue of Rs 408.78 crore from special train services. However, in the year 2020-21, this revenue increased to Rs 12,027.81 crores and in 2021-22 to Rs 17,526.48 crores.

It should be noted that the railways had earned Rs 50,669.09 crores in 2019-20 from the sale of passenger tickets. But in the subsequent year, due to the Covid, it fell to Rs 15,248.49 crores.
