Rain Showers in Pune; IMD Issues Yellow Alert for the Next Few Days

Pune, 23rd October 2025: After warm days and chilly nights in the run-up to Diwali, Pune and surrounding areas witnessed unseasonal rain showers today, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting intermittent rainfall until October 26. The showers, influenced by weather systems over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, have brought relief from rising daytime temperatures.

According to the IMD, a well-developed low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify and move in a west-northwest direction. Similarly, another low-pressure system developing over the Arabian Sea is expected to strengthen and move northwestwards. These twin systems are contributing to cloudy skies and scattered rain in Pune and western Maharashtra.

As a result, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for Pune, indicating the likelihood of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light to moderate rain in some areas. On Wednesday and Thursday, the city experienced a mix of sunshine and cloudy spells, with short showers recorded in certain localities.

Weather officials said parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan, Marathwada, and Vidarbha are likely to experience rain during the next two to three days. Moderate rainfall along with light winds and lightning is expected over Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra, while Vidarbha may witness isolated thundershowers.

In Pune, the sky is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy through the weekend, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.
