Rains Uproot Trees Across Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad; Over 10 Incidents Reported

Pune/Pimpri Chinchwad, 20th May 2025: Ongoing pre-monsoon showers have continued to disrupt daily life across Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, with multiple incidents of tree falls reported in both cities. The civic bodies and fire brigade teams remain on high alert as rainfall is expected to persist.
Hoardings have collapsed in Lohgaon (Porwal road) and Wagholi.
In Pune city, at least 10 tree fall incidents were reported on Tuesday in areas including Yerwada, Koregaon Park, Dhanori, Erandwane, Devachi Uruli, Bavdhan, and Mukundnagar. Fire brigade teams were swiftly deployed to clear the debris and ensure public safety. No injuries have been reported.
Meanwhile, Pimpri Chinchwad also witnessed several tree falls in localities such as Pimpri, Jagtap Dairy, Chikhali, and Chinchwad. While traffic movement was briefly affected, there were no casualties. Similar incidents were recorded on Monday in Dapodi and Akurdi, prompting immediate response from municipal disaster teams.
Municipal officials confirmed that all affected areas are being cleared promptly. “Our teams are working on a war footing to clear roads and restore normalcy. So far, there have been no reports of serious injuries or major damage,” said a PCMC official.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall has been recorded in several locations across the district as of 6 PM on May 20. Chinchwad received the highest rainfall at 67.5 mm, followed by Dudulgaon (43.5 mm), Lavale (29 mm), and Pashan (26 mm). Shivajinagar, a central area in Pune, recorded 7 mm of rain.
