Reach Airports 3 Hours Before Departure, Say Airlines
New Delhi, 8th May 2025: In the wake of missile attacks by Pakistan on Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan—foiled by India’s air defence systems—the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has directed all airports and airlines across India to immediately ramp up security measures. India retaliated strongly with strikes on Pakistani cities including Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi, and Sialkot.
According to a source in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, all passengers will now undergo Secondary Ladder Point Checking (SLPC) at airports nationwide. Additionally, visitor entry into terminal buildings has been banned, and Air Marshals will be deployed as part of enhanced security operations.
Airlines Issue Passenger Advisories
Responding to the BCAS directive, major Indian carriers issued urgent advisories to passengers:
Air India tweeted, “In view of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security’s order to enhance security at airports, passengers are advised to arrive at their respective airports at least three hours before scheduled departure. Check-in counters will close 75 minutes before departure.”
Akasa Air also released a similar advisory, stating, “Due to increased security measures at all airports across India, we request you to reach the airport at least three hours before departure to ensure a seamless check-in and boarding experience. Please carry a valid government-approved photo ID. Only one handbag up to 7 kg will be allowed apart from check-in luggage. All passengers must undergo secondary security checks before boarding.”
National Security Measures in Full Swing
The BCAS directive is part of a broader security escalation across the country following renewed hostilities with Pakistan. The Indian Air Force’s swift response to Pakistani provocations and heightened alert status in border states has prompted multiple government departments to tighten vigilance.
High-level meetings are ongoing in Delhi, and travelers have been urged to stay updated through official channels and plan their journeys accordingly.
