Pune, 8thJanuary 2024: In a remarkable achievement, the Pune circle of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has set a record by implementing 2,34,810 new electricity connections across all categories in 2023. This accomplishment reflects the fastest performance by MSEDCL in the Pune circle, surpassing the previous year’s efforts by providing 57,579 more electricity connections.

Traditionally, the Pune circle witnesses the provision of one and a half to two and a half lakh new electricity connections annually. However, a strategic initiative was taken from January of the previous year to expedite the process of providing electricity connections. Deputy Chief Minister of the state, Devendra Fadnavis, emphasized the need to accelerate new electricity connections along with improving customer service. Lokesh Chandra, Chairman and Managing Director of MSEDCL, directed a focus on customer service in line with the “Ease of Living” initiative.

Chief Engineer Rajendra Pawar initiated a bi-weekly review of new electricity connections and meter availability from January last year. This proactive approach ensured the timely supply of meters for new electricity connections, contributing to the overall acceleration of the process. Consequently, between January and December 2023, a total of 2,34,810 new electricity connections were provided, marking a substantial increase from the 1,77,231 connections given in 2022.

The breakdown of the new electricity connections in 2023 includes 1,98,659 for households, 26,866 for commercial purposes, 3,768 for industrial use, and 5,517 for agricultural and other categories. Pune city accounted for 1,441 new electricity connections, Pimpri Chinchwad city for 72,466, and rural areas, including Ambegaon, Junnar, Maval, Khed, Mulshi, Velhe, and Haveli taluks, received 61,903 new connections.

Under the Pune circle, the speed of providing electricity connections has seen a significant rise. In 2023, the speed increased from the earlier rate of 15,000 to 16,000 per month to 19,550. Since April, this speed has further surged to 20,100 connections per month.

Pawar, Chief Engineer of Pune Circle, expressed satisfaction with the achievement, stating that efforts are ongoing to enhance the speed of providing electricity connections. He emphasized the commitment of all engineers, officers, and employees to deliver timely services to consumers in line with established standards.
