Record Break Rainfall In Dam Areas

Pune, 23, July 2021: After submerging of various cities, residents of Maharashtra woke up to the wettest day on Friday with ghat sections receiving heavy to very heavy rainfall. The western ghat section including Kolhapur, Satara, SAngli and Pune received record break rainfall within short period of time.

Tulshi dam from Kolhapur district received 895 mm rainfall while Koyana dam area received 610 mm, Navja 746 mm of rainfall. Various ghat sections have caved in. The dam authorities have increased the water discharged from the dam sending alert to the villages along the river bed.

Mahabaleshwar received 594 m of rains in last 24 hours”, said IMD official. According to irrigation officials heavy rainfall in the dam areas have forced them to discharge the water from the dam. At the same time we have alerted the villages along the river line”, said one of the officials.

Heavy rains have disrupted the railway and road services in the state.
