Pune, 26th May 2025: After days of relentless downpours across Maharashtra, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has now placed Pune district under a red alert, warning of extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the next few hours.

The advisory comes as torrential rains have battered large parts of Mumbai and Pune for five consecutive days, severely disrupting daily life. Several major roads have been inundated, resembling flowing streams, while low-lying regions in Daund and Baramati are witnessing flood-like situations.

According to IMD officials, intense rainfall activity is expected to persist for the next 48 hours, particularly affecting districts like Pune, Ratnagiri, and Raigad. The forecast also includes possible lightning strikes and thunderstorm activity during this period.
