Pune, 6th August 2021: Recently, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope announced that if there is a need for relaxation of restrictions in Pune city, the proposal should be sent by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Now Mayor Murlidhar Mohol has sent a proposal to the Health Minister to relax the restrictions.

While presenting this proposal, the coronavirus disease (COVID19) cases for the last three weeks have also been given and it has come to light that the positivity rate of the PMC area has been less than four per cent for the last three weeks.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Mohol said, “Pune residents and the Municipal Corporation have demanded relaxation of the restrictions. In fact, for the Pune district, we have been demanding relaxation of restrictions in the weekly meetings chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar. The Guardian Minister responded positively, but no such directive has been issued yet.”

Mohol informed that a total of 2,120 new patients were reported in the PMC area from 15th July to 21st July, while the number of tests conducted was 53,908. That is, the positivity rate remained at 3.93 per cent. Between July 22 and July 28, there were 1,663 new patients out of 49,210 tests. The positivity rate was 3.37 per cent. Between July 29 and August 4, a total of 50,777 tests were done and 1,684 new cases were reported. This means that the positivity rate stood at 3.31 per cent during the period. Another important point is that the positivity rate has been steadily declining for the last five weeks. The positivity rate was 5.00 per cent during the week of July 2 to 8, and now it has come down to 3.22 per cent during the week of July 30 to August 5, said Mohol.

“The recent figures are telling enough to show corona infection is under control in Pune city. Moreover, in the last 16 months, all Puneites have complied with the orders of the state government. However, at present, the time till 4 pm is becoming a problem for all and all professionals, employees and senior citizens are demanding that the lockdown restrictions should be relaxed. Against this backdrop, all Punekars have demanded that the restrictions should be relaxed to some extent and justice should be given to the people of Pune”, added Mohol.
