Relief Ahead for Highway Commuters; Service Road Work from Khed Shivapur to Ravet to Begin After Monsoon

Pune, 17th June 2025: The long-awaited concretization of service roads along the Khed Shivapur–Ravet stretch of the national highway will commence after the monsoon season, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has confirmed. The project also includes the construction of new service lanes within Pimpri-Chinchwad limits, promising major relief for daily commuters.
The 32.4-kilometre stretch, once completed, is expected to reduce traffic congestion and accident risks significantly. An estimated ₹604 crore has been allocated for the concretization and related infrastructure work.
Currently, it takes 45 minutes to an hour to cover this route due to frequent traffic bottlenecks. Once the service roads are operational, travel time could be cut down by 15–20 minutes. Motorists will also save on fuel and enjoy a smoother drive.
Key choke points such as Narhe, Navale Bridge, Warje, Chandni Chowk, and Ravet are often plagued with heavy traffic and pothole-ridden service roads. These conditions have led to frequent accidents and daily gridlocks, causing frustration among drivers and residents alike.
Taking note of the situation, NHAI has decided to begin comprehensive work on these service roads, aiming to enhance commuter safety and ease vehicle flow.
Key Benefits of the Project:
Reduced traffic congestion on the main highway
Smoother travel for smaller vehicles and local residents
Decrease in road accidents
Time savings of up to 20 minutes per trip
Improved fuel efficiency and vehicle performance
Overall acceleration of traffic movement
Project Timeline and Approval
The project has received final approval from the NHAI headquarters and will be executed in three phases. Work is scheduled to begin immediately after the monsoon ends.
According to Sanjay Kadam, Project Director, NHAI Pune said, “Once the service roads are constructed, commuters will experience reduced travel time and fewer accidents. The project has been sanctioned in three phases and will begin post-monsoon.”
