Remdesivir Production Being Increased Amid Covid Spike, Price Will Be Reduced

New Delhi, 15th April 2021: The central government on Wednesday approved to increase the production of Remdesivir injection. Under this, the production will be increased to about 78 lakh vials per month.
The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers said in a statement, the current total installed capacity of seven manufacturers of Remdesivir is 38.80 lakh vials per month. Along with this, the price of this injection will also be cut.
The ministry said six manufacturers have been given quick route approval for seven additional sites with a production capacity of 10 lakh vials per month. Production of 30 lakh vials per month is also going to start. With this, the production capacity will be about 78 lakh vials per month.
The statement said that the Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Mansukh Mandavia reviewed the issue of availability of Remdesivir in a meeting with all manufacturers and other stakeholders. Decisions were taken at the meeting to increase the production and supply of Remdesivir and reduce the prices.
The Ministry said that as an additional measure, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade has placed Remdesivir, main chemicals (APIs) and formulations under export ban with effect from April 11, 2021, to increase the supply of Remdesivir in the domestic market.
The statement said that Export Oriented Units (EOUs) are being able to supply Special Economic Zone (SEZ) units to the domestic market. According to the ministry, the companies that manufacture Remdesivir has voluntarily asked to reduce its price by the end of this week. The statement also said that the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) is constantly monitoring the availability of the drug.
