Handewadi,10th June 2026: After months of follow-up by residents over recurring power supply issues, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has initiated significant infrastructure measures aimed at strengthening electricity supply in Handewadi and adjoining areas. The developments come following sustained efforts by the Voice of Handewadi movement, through which residents collectively raised concerns regarding inadequate power infrastructure and frequent outages in the rapidly growing suburban belt.

According to official communication issued by MSEDCL, underground cable-laying work is currently underway to improve electricity reliability in the Handewadi and Autadewadi areas. The project involves laying an underground power cable from Bhojade Vasti to Pushpam Bungalow, a move expected to reduce interruptions and improve the quality of electricity supply for consumers.

MSEDCL officials informed residents that one phase of the underground cable project has already been completed in its entirety. The second phase of the work has progressed up to Kale Nagar Chowk, while the remaining section is expected to be completed by June 30, 2026. Following the completion of all required approvals and commissioning procedures, the underground cable network is expected to provide a more stable and uninterrupted power supply to the region.

The proposed power infrastructure upgrades are expected to benefit a large number of residents living along Handewadi Road, Autade-Handewadi, Undri, Raheja Chowk, Mohammadwadi and surrounding localities, many of whom have faced electricity-related issues for several years.

In a parallel development, MSEDCL has submitted a technical proposal worth ₹40,80,336 for strengthening electricity infrastructure in Arnav Park Phase-II, located at Nhavale Vasti on Handewadi Road. The proposal was prepared after a site inspection conducted by MSEDCL officials and has been forwarded to higher authorities for approval.

The project includes the provision of 21 new residential electricity connections with a sanctioned load of 42 kW. Once approved and implemented, the project is expected to address the long-pending electricity requirements of residents in the area and support future residential development.

Residents have welcomed the progress, describing it as a significant milestone in their campaign for better civic infrastructure. They credited the development to the collective efforts undertaken through the Voice of Handewadi movement, which has consistently engaged with authorities on local issues affecting residents.

“For years, residents of Handewadi, Autade-Handewadi, Undri and surrounding areas have been facing frequent power outages and inadequate electricity infrastructure. Through the Voice of Handewadi movement, citizens came together and consistently followed up with MSEDCL regarding these issues. The communication issued by MSEDCL and the progress on the proposed power supply line and Arnav Park infrastructure project are positive developments for the entire region. This demonstrates that when residents unite and raise their concerns collectively, authorities take notice and meaningful change becomes possible. We will continue to follow up until these projects are completed and residents receive a reliable and uninterrupted power supply,” said Ashish Ingale, representative of Voice of Handewadi and the Handewadi Residents Association.

Residents said the latest action by MSEDCL demonstrates the effectiveness of community participation in resolving long-standing civic concerns. With the underground cable project nearing completion and the Arnav Park proposal awaiting approval, citizens are hopeful that the region will soon witness substantial improvements in electricity reliability and infrastructure.

The developments are particularly significant for the fast-growing Handewadi-Mohammadwadi-Undri corridor, where rapid urbanisation has increased pressure on existing power infrastructure. Residents now await timely implementation of the proposed projects, which they believe will enhance both the quality and reliability of electricity supply in the area.
