Pune, 24th March 2023: Last week, employees of the Registration and Stamp Department in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad participated in a strike, causing a significant decrease in registration activity. During the strike, only 355 cases were registered in one day, amounting to only ten crores of revenue.

However, the situation has since improved, with a total of 1350 registrations completed on Thursday alone, resulting in a revenue of Rs 71 crore 26 lakhs for the government.

The registration and stamp department is the second largest revenue generating department for the state government, with 27 Sub-Registrar offices in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad cities. The new rates of current market value, which are applicable from April 1st, result in the highest number of document registrations in March each year. Consequently, parties are flocking to the office of the secondary registrar to register deeds for land, flats, shops, and other properties before the deadline.

The registration offices were closed from March 14 to 20 due to the strike, as employees demanded the implementation of the old pension scheme. However, the situation has since been restored, and citizens are rushing to complete their transactions by the end of March. The successful completion of these transactions is crucial for the government’s revenue collection and the citizens’ property ownership rights.
