Reward for Good Samaritans Raised to Rs 25,000 for Saving Road Accident Victims

New Delhi, 12th January 2025: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced on Saturday a significant increase in the reward amount for Good Samaritans who promptly transport road accident victims to hospitals, raising it from Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000.
Speaking in a televised discussion with actor Anupam Kher on road safety, Gadkari highlighted the urgency of enhancing the reward, stating that the current amount was insufficient given the critical role of timely medical intervention, often crucial in saving lives within the first hour of accidents.
Since its inception in October 2021, the government’s initiative aims to incentivize individuals who voluntarily provide immediate assistance or emergency care to accident victims, defined as Good Samaritans. The Road Transport Ministry’s website outlines the criteria for receiving rewards and certificates of recognition, ensuring genuine efforts are acknowledged through rigorous verification processes.
“The policy acknowledges individuals who intervene during fatal accidents, providing them with deserved incentives,” Gadkari affirmed during the conversation.
