Pune, 16th May 2023: Disturbing images of bent electric poles, dangling electric wires, and entangled wire nets have been discovered in densely populated slums and hut areas of the city. Additionally, many power lines are poorly secured from residents’ houses, leading to the proliferation of dangerous wire nets in the city’s crowded settlements.

The Gultekadi industrial estate complex is particularly affected by exposed power lines, prompting citizens to demand the removal of hazardous wire nets from densely populated areas to prevent future incidents.

Tragically, the city has already witnessed major accidents in slum areas, including incidents of electrocution resulting in the deaths of children. Furthermore, dangerous wiring has caused fires due to short circuits during the summer months.

Several areas, such as Industrial Estate, Market Yard, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Wasti, Premnagar, Dhankawadi, Janta Vasahat, Parvati Darshan, Padmavati, Hadapsar, Ramwadi, Shivajinagar, Rajeev Gandhi Vasahat, and others, have exposed electric power lines posing significant risks.

The BJP has called for the removal of wire nets attached to open electric cables that hang from houses in the industrial colony of Gultekadi. Letters have been submitted to the officers of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) in this regard.
