Pune, 25th October 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has appealed to citizens to cooperate and drive cautiously as road improvement works are underway ahead of a world-class cycling competition to be held in the city from January 19 to 23, 2026.

Cyclists from across India and several other countries are expected to participate in the prestigious event, which will cover a total of 75 kilometres of city roads. The competition is expected to bring Pune international recognition as a cycling destination.

To ensure that the event meets global standards, PMC has undertaken the task of upgrading the designated roads. “It is necessary to make these roads as per the standards of the World Cycling Competition.

Milling is being done on several stretches, followed by immediate asphalt work,” said Aniruddha Pawaskar, Chief Engineer (Roads Department), Pune Municipal Corporation.

Pawaskar urged motorists to drive safely and be patient as some temporary inconvenience is expected during the ongoing works. “Citizens may face minor disruptions for a short duration, but their cooperation is essential to successfully host this world-class event,” he added.

The cycling competition is seen as an opportunity to showcase Pune’s infrastructure readiness and promote sustainable, sport-oriented urban development on an international scale.
