Rohit Pawar Targets Murlidhar Mohol, Says BJP Fears Defeat in Pune Municipal Elections
Pune, 9th January 2026: Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar faction) MLA and election in-charge Rohit Pawar on Friday launched a sharp attack on BJP leader and Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol, alleging that Mohol is “worried about being held responsible” if the BJP loses the upcoming municipal elections.
Addressing a public meeting in the Warje area while campaigning for NCP (SP) and NCP candidates, Pawar said Mohol’s recent statements reflect anxiety over a possible defeat in the Pune Municipal Corporation elections. He was responding to Mohol’s challenge to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar over the alleged issue of granting a passport to Nilesh Ghaywal.
“Why challenge Ajit Pawar? I am ready to speak to you directly on the passport issue involving a criminal,” Rohit Pawar said, issuing a counter-challenge to Mohol.
Pawar also strongly criticised the BJP for its attacks on Ajit Pawar, particularly over remarks related to permissions required for development projects. He alleged that BJP leaders were deliberately creating obstacles for construction projects and businesses in Pune.
“In any city, projects require proper approvals. Ajit Pawar was only stating this reality. However, in Pune, BJP leaders are intentionally obstructing ongoing construction projects and businesses. There are even threats being made over phone calls, saying hurdles will be created,” Pawar alleged.
Taking aim at the BJP’s governance record, Pawar claimed that Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad have suffered due to poor planning and lack of effective development. He also criticised BJP MLA Mahesh Landge over his controversial remark, saying it amounted to an insult to women.
“Statements like these expose the true face of BJP leaders. Such comments have angered the public, and that is why leaders like Landge now appear nervous,” Pawar said.
Referring to the Jain Boarding case, Pawar further alleged that Mohol’s growing connections in Delhi were linked to political we222 manoeuvring against him. “Mohol’s influence in Delhi has increased, and we can also reveal who exactly played the ‘game’ against him,” Pawar said, issuing a veiled warning.
The remarks come amid intensified campaigning and heightened political exchanges ahead of the civic elections in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, with BJP, NCP factions, and other parties stepping up attacks as the polls draw closer.
