RPF Pune Recovers and Returns Lost Passenger Bag Worth Rs 3.74 Lakh Under ‘Operation Amanat’

Pune, 14th April 2025: Railway Protection Force (RPF) Pune recovered and returned a lost passenger bag containing valuables worth ₹3.74 lakh under the ongoing initiative “Operation Amanat.”

The incident occurred on April 12 when the Duty Station Control Room (DSCR) received a report regarding a red-colored handbag left behind by a passenger, Babita Mahadev Sonawane, who had boarded Train No. 18520 from Pune to Solapur. The bag was reportedly left on Platform No. 6 near the AC coach area of the Pune railway station.

Upon receiving the message, SIPF S.D. Mohbe assigned the case to HC Milind Ingle, who was on platform duty. HC Ingle located the bag at the mentioned spot and secured it at the RPF Pune post.

The passenger, Babita Sonawane, confirmed over a phone call that the bag contained gold ornaments and cash. Since she had already departed for Solapur, she authorized her brother, Dattatraya Mahadev Sonawane, to collect the bag on her behalf.

Dattatraya arrived at the RPF post, where he verified his identity and relationship with the passenger. After reconfirming with the passenger and in the presence of two independent witnesses, the bag was opened. The contents included:

A 10-gram gold bangle worth ₹70,000

Three pairs of gold earrings (5 grams total) valued at ₹49,000

A 5-gram gold medal worth ₹21,000

Four gold coins and medals (5 grams) valued at ₹35,000

A 3-gram gold ring priced at ₹21,000

A 5-gram Mangalsutra with pendant worth ₹35,000

A 1-gram Om pendant valued at ₹7,000

Cash amounting to ₹1,36,500

Other items such as dry fruits, clothes, and medicines

The total value of the recovered items was estimated at ₹3,74,500. The belongings were returned to Dattatraya Sonawane in the presence of witnesses. The recovery was officially logged at the RPF Post, Pune under Entry No. 43 at 15:20 hrs on April 12, 2025.
