Rs 2000 Fake Currency Notes Seized By Pimpri Police, Three Persons Arrested

Pimpri, August 18, 2020: The officials from Pimpri Chinchwad police have seized 149 fake currency notes of Rs 2000 denomination and have arrested three persons. Police have also seized their car in which they were carrying the notes.

Based on a complaint from constable Shahaji Dhaygude, the case has been registered with Pimpri police station. Police suspect that the accused used to print the fake currency notes. Two teams have been formed to arrest their accomplices.

Acting on a tip-off received by Police Inspector (crime) Rajendra Nikalje, the cops intercepted a car at 10.35 pm near Vodafone office in Akurdi on August 16 (Sunday). Police seized the Rs 2000 fake Indian currency notes (FICN), total face value Rs 2.98 lakh, kept in the dashboard of the car. Police suspect that the amount was to be exchanged for a loan amount related to a land deal.

The arrested persons have been identified as Abhishek Pradip Katariya (19) of Thergaon, Omkar Shashikant Jadhav (19) of Keshavnagar, Chinchwad and Suresh Bhagwan Patole (40) of Patevasti in Fugewadi. They have been charged for offences under sections 489B (using forged or counterfeit currency-notes as genuine) and 489C (possession of forged or counterfeit currency-notes) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The action was taken under the supervision of DCP (Zone 1) Smita Patil and ACP Ram Jadhav by a team led by Senior Police Inspector Milind Waghmare and Inspector Nikalje. The team included Police Sub Inspector Vaibhav Sonawane, Purushottam Chate and policemen Shahaji Dhaygude, Umesh Wankhade, Javed Bagsiraj, Ambre and Jadhav.
