Rs 205 Crore Electricity Dues in Pune: MSEDCL Sets Deadline for Recovery, Warns Officials
Pune, 4th October 2026: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has directed officials in the Pune circle to recover outstanding electricity dues of ₹205.87 crore by next Saturday, warning of strict action if the target is not achieved.
MSEDCL Executive Director (Commercial) Dinesh Agrawal expressed displeasure over the pending arrears despite repeated instructions and directed officials to ensure that the outstanding amount is recovered along with the current October electricity bills.
Agrawal was reviewing the performance of the Pune circle at a meeting attended by senior officials. The review covered electricity bill recovery, quality and continuity of power supply, and the Seva Setu and Seva Sankalp campaigns at the subdivision level.
“The outstanding amount at the end of September stands at ₹205.87 crore. This is not a good situation for Pune. Recover these arrears along with the current October bills. The outstanding amount should be recovered by next Saturday,” Agrawal said.
He also directed officials to focus on maintaining uninterrupted power supply as the October heat has begun. Officials were asked to take necessary measures to ensure reliable electricity supply in their respective areas and prevent power theft and losses to increase MSEDCL’s revenue.
Agrawal also stressed the need to strengthen the Seva Setu and Seva Sankalp campaigns, directing officials to set up more kiosks so that consumers can access MSEDCL services conveniently.
The meeting was attended by in-charge Chief Engineer Dnyandev Padalkar, Superintending Engineers Sinhajirao Gaikwad and Suresh Sawairam, Assistant General Manager (Finance and Accounts) Kirti Bhosale, along with executive engineers, sub-divisional engineers and other officials from the Pune circle.
Action warned over use of private manpower
MSEDCL has also reiterated that technical and high-risk work related to its electricity network must not be carried out using private individuals or unauthorised manpower.
Replacing faulty transformers, carrying out technical repairs, electricity bill recovery and meter removal are among the works that must be handled by authorised technical employees in the Tar-Marg cadre while strictly following electrical safety regulations, the utility said.
MSEDCL warned that if private or unauthorised manpower is used for such work and an electrical accident occurs, the employees responsible could face stringent disciplinary action, including dismissal.
MSEDCL Director (Operations) Dhananjay Aundhekar has recently issued a circular directing regional chief engineers and superintending engineers to verify compliance with these instructions in their respective jurisdictions.
