Rs 4 Crore Cash Seized In Lonavala

Lonavala, 29th March 2022: Lonavla rural police have seized cash worth Rs 4 crore on the Mumbai-Pune expressway. The action was taken on Monday (March 28).

The rural police informed that confidential information was received stating that there would be illegal movement of weapons and money on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. A team from Lonavala Rural Police Station was assigned to verify the input.

At around 6 pm, a suspicious car was spotted on its way from Mumbai to Pune. When it was signalled to stop, the car started moving away. At that time, the police team skillfully intercepted the Maruti Swift car with the Karnataka registration number.

While checking the car, Rs 4 crore was found. As the occupants Mahesh Nana Mane (resident of Vitha, Sangli) who was driving the car and Vikas Sambhaji Ghadge (resident of Shetphal, Sangli) could not answer satisfactorily about the huge cash, they were detained.

Lonavla Rural Police Inspector Pravin More said, “Investigation is underway to get information about the amount and to understand where and for what purpose such a large amount of money was brought. The matter is being investigated and the Pune Income Tax Department has been informed. Further action is being taken by the Income Tax Department.”

The action was taken under the guidance of Superintendent of Police (Pune rural) Dr Abhinav Deshmukh, Additional SP Mittesh Ghatte, SDPO Rajendra Patil. The investigation team included PSI Sachin Bunkar, Anil Lavate and police personnel Sitaram Bokad, Yuvraj Bansode, Amit Thosar, Pushpa Ghuge, Ganesh Holkar, Kishore Pawar and Siddheshwar Shinde.
