Ruby Hall Clinic Observes World COPD Day with Comprehensive Community Awareness Drive
Pune, November 27th, 2025, Ruby Hall Clinic marked World COPD Day with an impactful awareness initiative led by Dr. Mahavir Modi, Senior Pulmonologist, aimed at highlighting the rising burden of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and the critical importance of early diagnosis, prevention, and multidisciplinary care.
The program witnessed active participation from the hospital’s team of pulmonologists, lung-function technicians, paramedical staff, postgraduate residents, and device-training specialists from Cipla. The event was graced by Dr. Simon Grant Physician and Trustee Ruby Hall Clinic, CEO Mr. Behram Khodiji, COO Mr. Urvaksh Bhote, Medical Director Dr. Prasad Muglikar, and senior leaders from the Medicine and Intensive Care departments, reflecting the institution’s commitment to respiratory health.
As part of the awareness drive, the team set up educational displays, a photo booth illustrating the contrast between healthy and diseased lungs, and an informative standee outlining key causes, symptoms, and the alarming rise of non-smoking COPD cases in India. These activities aimed to engage the public and encourage timely health checks, especially as environmental and lifestyle factors continue to contribute to rising COPD prevalence.
Dr. Modi emphasized that COPD now the second leading cause of death globally has seen a paradigm shift in treatment over the past decade. He highlighted the evolution from generalized inhaler therapy to precision, phenotype-based treatment, supported by advancements such as home oxygen therapy, non-invasive ventilation, pulmonary rehabilitation, palliative care, and, in select advanced cases, lung transplantation.
He further noted that COPD is no longer viewed solely as a lung condition but a multisystem disease with significant impact on the heart, muscles, and nervous system, reinforcing the need for integrated, multidisciplinary management.
Ruby Hall Clinic reaffirmed its dedication to sustained community outreach, preventive education, and improved access to respiratory care. The hospital urges citizens to avoid exposure to risk factors, recognize early symptoms, and seek prompt medical evaluation to improve long-term outcomes and quality of life for those living with COPD.
