Safety Scare At Pune Metro Site: Car Hit By Falling Debris Raises Alarm

Yerwada, 11th August 2023: A potentially catastrophic accident was narrowly averted on Thursday when a section of an under-construction metro bridge collapsed onto a car at a Metro Station in Yerwada.

The car sustained significant damage in the incident, as an iron component of the under-construction station gave way. Miraculously, both the driver and passenger in the car escaped without sustaining any major injuries.

Nevertheless, this incident has raised concerns, particularly given that Pune Metro has been undertaking construction activities at various locations across the city, including some of its busiest thoroughfares. Of particular note is the Pune-Ahmednagar highway that runs through Yerwada and Vimannagar, a crucial artery for city traffic. As a result, local residents and activists have begun voicing apprehensions about safety in light of this alarming incident.

Metro authorities have responded swiftly, ordering a comprehensive safety audit of the metro station under construction at the site of the incident. Officials responsible for the project have been directed to probe any potential lapses and rigorously assess the quality of work being carried out at the location. Officers from Maha Metro conducted an on-site inspection to identify any shortcomings and evaluate the extent of damage sustained by the car.
