Pune, 16th May 2025: The Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) and Women’s Maharashtra Premier League (WMPL) welcomed two new franchises this season — the Satara Warriors (men’s team) and Pune Warriors (women’s team) — both of which held their inaugural practice sessions on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya at the Ath Elite Ground in Pune.

The sessions were formally inaugurated by Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) President Rohit Pawar, in the presence of franchise owners Manpreet Uppal, Director of Wine Enterprises Private Limited, and Gaurav Gadhoke of GG Infra. Other dignitaries present included MCA Executive Committee Member and Ground Committee Chairman Sushil Shewale, MCA CEO Ajinkya Joshi, and Goel Ganga Group Director Annuj Goel

In his keynote address, Rohit Pawar applauded the franchise owners for their commitment to nurturing cricketing talent in the state by providing players with world-class training facilities and professional coaching staff. “This league was started with the goal of giving Maharashtra’s players a platform equal to international standards. The kind of support these franchise owners have extended — purely out of love for the sport — is commendable,” he stated.

He further encouraged the players to give their best on the field, emphasizing that performances in MPL and WMPL are being closely watched by national selectors and could pave the way to opportunities in the IPL and beyond.

Mr. Manpreet Uppal, Franchise owner Director of Wine Enterprises Private Limited shared his excitement about entering the MPL and WMPL for the first time and expressed his hope that the platform would significantly benefit players from across the state. Our aim is to see more talent from the state rise to the national level through this platform.

Mr. Gaurav Gadhoke of GG Infra, echoed this sentiment, stating, “We are proud to be part of this cricketing movement in Maharashtra.”

The commencement of practice sessions marks a significant step forward for the newly inducted teams as they prepare to compete in one of Maharashtra’s most dynamic cricket tournaments.
