Savitribai Phule Pune University Celebrates 123rd Convocation Ceremony With Record-Breaking 1,05,654 Students

Pune, 17th January 2024: The 123rd convocation ceremony of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) concluded with great enthusiasm as 1,05,654 students were conferred with their well-deserved degrees. The ceremony, held today, was graced by Dr. Vinay Sahastrabuddhe, former president of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), who emphasized the importance of adaptive disciplines in universities.

Addressing the audience, Dr. Sahastrabuddhe highlighted the need for universities to focus on organizational structure, leadership, and organization. He stressed that this approach would eradicate ideological hypocrisy from its roots. The graduation ceremony, presided over by Maharashtra State Governor and University Chancellor Ramesh Bais, featured Dr. Suresh Gosavi, Vice-Chancellor of the SPPU, and other dignitaries.

A total of 1,05,654 students received their graduation certificates during the ceremony, marking a significant milestone for the university, which is celebrating its Amrit Mahotsav (Diamon Jubilee) year. Dr. Sahastrabuddhe suggested that the university should introduce a new branch of knowledge in institution building, emphasizing the importance of ending neglect in this area. He called for the development of three knowledge streams: leadership science, organization science, and organization structure science.

Governor Bais underscored the broader objective of quality higher education, stating that it goes beyond job creation. He emphasized that knowledge is the key to creating a vibrant, inclusive, and prosperous nation. The Governor highlighted the transformative power of knowledge, paving the way for progress, innovation, and change. He expressed confidence that students would contribute to the national economy through the knowledge gained during higher education.

Vice-Chancellor Gosavi affirmed the university’s commitment to implementing the new National Education Policy. He outlined the goal for the next five years, focusing on empowering infrastructure and knowledge branches to support comprehensive education.

The ceremony also witnessed the publication of a special edition of Savitribai Phule Pune University’s ‘Vidyapith Varta.’ Dignitaries honored 10 students who excelled in various examinations with gold medals.

Riddhi Sunil Kalantri, a student of Ashoka Center for Business and Computer Studies College, Nashik, received ‘The President of India Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal.’

Prajkta Pramod Pathade, a student of Rayat Shikshan Sansta’s Dada Patil Mahavidyalaya, Karjat (Ahmednagar district), was honored with the ‘Shrimati Nilimatai Pawar Gold Medal’ for her outstanding performance under the earn and learn scheme.

Muzain Kokani

Several students were recognized for their exceptional work, including Muzain Kokani, a student of Ashoka Center for Business and Computer Studies College, Nashik, who secured six gold medals for scoring the highest marks in the MBA examination.

Vigyan Patil who secured first rank in MBA tri semester was honored with gold medal.

The ceremony, held in the indoor hall, concluded with the awarding of degree certificates to 85,440 students, master’s degree certificates to 19,768 students, diploma certificates to 226 students, Ph.D. to 187 students, M.Phil to four students, and postgraduate diploma certificates to 34 students.

The event was attended by members of the Management Council, Vidya Parishad members, Adhisabha members, along with Deans of various faculties, professors, teachers, non-teaching staff, and students. The positive and celebratory atmosphere marked the successful conclusion of the graduation ceremony, reflecting the university’s commitment to academic excellence and the holistic development of its students.
