Savitribai Phule Pune University Celebrates Birth Anniversary of Sant Gulabrao Maharaj
Pune, 6th July 2026: Savitribai Phule Pune University commemorated the birth anniversary of ‘Pradnyachakshu’ Shri Sant Gulabrao Maharaj, the renowned saint, philosopher, spiritual leader and social reformer, with a special programme held at the university’s Saraswati Hall on Monday.
The event began with Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Parag Kalkar and Director and Head of Department Prof. Dr. Vilas Adhav paying floral tributes to the portrait of Sant Gulabrao Maharaj.
During the programme, speakers reflected on Sant Gulabrao Maharaj’s remarkable contribution to Indian philosophy, spirituality and the saintly tradition. They highlighted how he harmonised knowledge with devotion while promoting the values of equality, rationality, humanity and ethical living through his teachings.
The speakers also noted that despite his short lifespan, Sant Gulabrao Maharaj produced an extensive body of literature and played a significant role in social awakening. His writings and ideals, they said, continue to inspire researchers, academicians, scholars and the younger generation.
Emphasising the relevance of his legacy, the speakers said Sant Gulabrao Maharaj’s journey of overcoming adversity through the pursuit of knowledge serves as a powerful inspiration. They stressed that preserving and spreading his teachings is essential for future generations.
The programme was attended by a large number of university officials, faculty members, administrative staff and students from various academic and administrative departments.
