Mumbai–Pune Rail Traffic Disrupted by Landslide: 17 Trains Cancelled, 31 Diverted as Heavy Rains Batter Ghat Section
Pune, 6th July 2026: Train services on the Mumbai–Pune route continue to remain severely affected after a major landslide between Thakurvadi Cabin and Monkey Hill Cabin on the Lonavala–Karjat section, with Central Railway announcing widespread cancellations, diversions, short terminations, short originations, and rescheduling of trains.
According to an update issued by Central Railway at 2 pm on Monday, the landslide was triggered by incessant rainfall over the South East Ghats between Lonavala and Karjat. The region recorded more than 140 mm of rainfall within four hours on July 6, following 327 mm on July 5 and 162 mm on July 4.
Railway officials said restoration work is underway on a priority basis, but train operations have been significantly disrupted.
As per the latest update:
17 trains have been cancelled.
31 trains have been diverted.
18 trains have been short terminated.
15 trains have been short originated.
4 trains have been rescheduled.
Among the prominent trains cancelled on July 6 are the Indrayani Express, Deccan Queen Express, Deccan Express, Pragati Express, Sinhagad Express, Pune–CSMT Intercity Express, CSMT–Pune Intercity Express, Solapur Intercity Express, and the CSMT–Solapur Express.
Several long-distance trains, including services to and from Ahmedabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Indore, Rajkot, Bikaner and Hazrat Nizamuddin, have been diverted via alternative routes through Daund, Manmad, Igatpuri, Surat and other sections.
Multiple trains have also been short terminated at stations including Pune, Lonavala, Karjat, Talegaon, Khadki, Chinchwad, Daund, Solapur, Panvel, Vasai Road and Igatpuri, while several return services have been short originated from these stations.
In addition, four trains, including the LTT–Visakhapatnam Express, CSMT–Koyna Express, CSMT–Nanded Express and Daund–Indore Express, have been rescheduled due to the disruption.
Central Railway has advised passengers to check the latest train status before commencing their journey, as restoration work continues in the affected ghat section and further operational changes may be announced depending on weather conditions.
