Savitribai Phule Pune University Implements Changes in Certificate And Diploma Course Syllabus

Pune, 11th December 2023: In alignment with the National Education Policy, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has introduced modifications to the syllabus of its Certificate and Post Graduate Diploma courses. The changes are set to take effect in the upcoming academic year. As part of this shift, colleges will discontinue traditional diploma courses and instead have the flexibility to introduce foundation courses for 12th-pass students and advanced courses for graduates.
SPPU offers a variety of certificate, diploma, and advanced degree courses to enhance skill development among students, with these changes reflecting a response to the evolving educational landscape guided by the National Education Policy. The decision to redefine the nomenclature, credits, duration, and other aspects of existing certificates, advanced certificates, diplomas, and postgraduate diploma courses was made by the authority board of SPPU. A committee, chaired by Manohar Chaskar, was assigned to formulate the policy, and the resulting report has been approved by SPPU for implementation starting from the academic year 2024-25.
The circular detailing these changes has been published on the university’s website. SPPU has directed all its departments, affiliated colleges, and recognized institutions to update information related to existing certificates, advanced certificates, diplomas, and postgraduate diplomas, including details about credits, duration, and syllabus, by December 30. The university has provided a facility for this purpose and emphasized that courses failing to update information within the stipulated period will not be approved for the next academic year.
The educational programs vary in duration and credits: Certificate (1 year, 20-22 credits), Diploma (2 years, 80-88 credits), Degree (3 years, 120-132 credits), and Degree (Honours or Research, 4 years, 160-176 credits).
