Schools In Goa To Close By Noon Amid Heatwave Alert By IMD

Panaji, 9th March 2023: Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant has instructed Goa’s Director of Education to release a circular announcing the closure of schools before noon on Thursday and Friday in response to the heatwave alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Shailesh Zingade, director of education, informed IANS, that the decision was made as a result of the heatwave alert. Schools have been instructed to permit children to depart by noon today and tomorrow.

According to IMD, the maximum temperature over Goa is predicted to remain 4-6 degrees Celsius higher than average.

A circular from IMD stated, “Please be aware that isolated areas over North Goa and South Goa may experience hot conditions. From March 11 onward, maximum temperatures are predicted to drop steadily by 2 to 3 degrees. The most recent observations and information from numerical weather prediction models are used to issue the alerts.”

Due to the heat wave, schools that are holding exams have been told to postpone exam times.
