Schools In Pune May Be Closed Again, Hints Mayor Mohol Due To Rise In Covid Cases

Pune, 3rd January 2021: After reviewing the Coronavirus disease (COVID19) situation in Pune city today, Mayor Murlidhar Mohol said that he will urge the district administration to close the schools and re-start the online classes.

“Although the number of new COVID patients has been increasing in the Pune municipal corporation (PMC) area since last week, most of them are asymptomatic and have mild symptoms. Considering the possibility of the third wave, the municipal health system has been kept ready. Therefore, Pune residents should take care of themselves and their families without worrying,” appealed Mayor Mohol.

Against the backdrop of the increasing number of patients, Mayor Mohol held a review meeting and instructed the administration to keep the health system ready. The meeting was attended by Deputy Mayor Sunita Wadekar, PMC Standing Committee Chairman Hemant Rasne, Leader of the House Ganesh Bidkar, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Leader of Opposition Deepali Dhumal, Shiv Sena Group Leader Prithviraj Sutar, Ashwini Landage, Farjana Sheikh, Additional Commissioner Ravindra Binwade, Health Chief Dr Ashish Bharti along with party leaders and officials of the concerned department were present.

Mayor Mohol further said, “The number of active patients has increased tremendously in the last one week and up to 80 per cent of them have taken both doses of vaccine. However, the number of patients who have to be admitted to the hospital is relatively low. Yet we have prepared to the fullest. At present, PMC has 4000 Remdesivir injections, 1800 beds, oxygen production capacity of 9,500 LPM. Oxygen storage facilities have been set up at nine places.

The Jumbo COVID Hospital at COEP ground in Shivajinagar is also well equipped and can be started in a short span of time. In addition, we are working to increase the total number of oxygen beds and the number of testing centres as needed. Flying squads will be further activated to take action against those who do not follow the rules. These squads will be ready to take action against the violators.”
