Science Meets Society Over a Pint: ‘Pint of Science’ Festival Debuts in India This May

Pune, 13th May 2025: A pint of beer, a dash of curiosity, and a healthy serving of scientific discovery—this is the recipe behind Pint of Science, an international festival that’s bringing breakthrough research out of labs and into local cafes, bars, and community spaces. And this year, for the first time, India joins the global celebration of science.
Scheduled across May 19, 20, and 21, the Pint of Science 2025 festival will take place in Pune, Bengaluru, and New Delhi, offering an exciting new platform for Indian researchers to connect with the public in a casual and engaging setting.
Originally launched in the United Kingdom in 2013, Pint of Science has grown into a global movement, spanning more than 500 cities across 27 countries. The festival aims to bridge the gap between researchers and the general public through informal, jargon-free talks delivered by scientists, postdocs, and PhD scholars.
This year’s Indian edition is set to feature two venues in each host city, with tickets available online at www.pintofscience.in. Seats are limited and ticket prices are redeemable for food and drinks at the event location—making it a treat for both the mind and the taste buds.
“This unique event provides a wonderful opportunity to put young Indian scientists on the world map by showcasing their cutting-edge research in multidisciplinary domains,” said Debarati Chatterjee, Associate Professor at IUCAA (Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune) and Director of Pint of Science India. “It will also help make science more fun and attractive to young doctoral and postdoctoral students by helping them engage with a general audience.”
From Atoms to AI: Topics for Every Curious Mind
The festival’s theme is as broad as science itself—ranging from atoms and galaxies to human health, ecology, and emerging technologies. Speakers are encouraged to get creative, using memes, visuals, animations, games, and even live demonstrations to explain their work in an engaging way.
Each evening will feature a series of short, TED-style talks, interspersed with interactive filler events like quizzes, games, and contests, with prizes and exclusive Pint of Science merchandise up for grabs.
The aim is simple yet profound: to demystify science and make it accessible, relevant, and enjoyable for everyone, whether you’re a science geek or just science-curious.
