Seminar on Sustainable Military Infrastructure Development Held at CME, Pune

Dapodi, 9th February 2025: A two-day seminar on “Adopting and Accelerating Sustainable Practices for Development and Maintenance of Infrastructure for Armed Forces” was successfully organised at the College of Military Engineering (CME), Pune, under the aegis of HQ ARTRAC (Army Training Command) on 07–08 February 2025. The hybrid-mode seminar brought together eminent speakers, subject matter experts (SMEs) and thought leaders from academia and industry to discuss sustainable infrastructure solutions for the Armed Forces. 

The seminar aimed to explore innovative and sustainable construction practices for the development and maintenance of military infrastructure, including solid and liquid waste management in military stations. It provided a platform for in-depth discussions on ongoing efforts and their effectiveness in aligning military infrastructure development with India’s national sustainability goals and climate commitments.

Delivering the keynote address, Lt Gen Arvind Walia, Ati Vishist Seva Medal, Engineer-in-Chief, Corps of Engineers, emphasised the critical need for adopting sustainable construction practices, particularly in waste management.

The seminar covered global and national sustainability policies, cutting-edge technologies and real-world case studies, fostering meaningful dialogues among experts and stakeholders. The exchange of ideas and best practices is expected to enhance the resilience, efficiency, and environmental sustainability of military installations.

A key highlight of the event was a technology and product exhibition featuring 19 companies, showcasing advanced solutions in sustainable construction and infrastructure development. This display not only enriched participants’ knowledge but also facilitated crucial collaborations between academia and industry, driving innovation and economic growth.

By fostering dialogue and collaboration, this seminar has set the stage for the adoption of sustainable technologies that will contribute to the long-term development of eco-friendly and operationally effective infrastructure for the Armed Forces.
