Pune, 11th January 2025: The recent incidents in Parbhani and Beed districts, including the murder of Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh and the death of Somnath Suryavanshi in police custody, have sparked unrest across Maharashtra. In response to the growing discontent, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SP) president Sharad Pawar has stressed that the responsibility for maintaining peace in the state does not lie solely with the Chief Minister, but with everyone collectively.

Speaking at a program organized by the Sahitya Parishad, Pawar referred to the tragic events in Parbhani and Beed as unfortunate but urged the state to calm down. “Our political views may differ, but the responsibility to keep Maharashtra peaceful belongs to everyone. It is not the responsibility of the Chief Minister alone,” Pawar said.

Pawar further explained that, prior to the event, he had a conversation with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis regarding the situation in the affected districts. “I have spoken with Fadnavis about the need to de-escalate the situation,” he added.

The NCP leader, who has long championed the ideals of social reformers like Phule, Shahu, and Ambedkar, also reflected on the broader cultural and political landscape of Maharashtra.
