Shirur accident: Family of educators killed in car accident on Ahmednagar-Pune highway

Pune, 21 February 2023: Tragedy struck the Bhondve family today as they were traveling in their Indica car from Beed to Pune’s Chakan area. The car hit a truck parked near Phalke Malla on the Ahmednagar-Pune highway, resulting in the death of four family members, including a four-year-old child.

The deceased have been identified as Sudam Bhondve, his wife Sindhu Sudam Bhondve, granddaughter Anandi Ashwin Bhondve, and daughter-in-law Kartiki Ashwin Bhondve. Sudam Bhondve was a well-known educator who had founded the Sondara Gurukul school in Domri, Beed.

Driver Ashwin Bhondve was seriously injured and is currently undergoing treatment in Shirur, while his wife Kartiki Bhondve was also seriously injured and passed away while being taken to a hospital in Ahmednagar for treatment.

The accident was so severe that the car was completely crushed, trapping all the family members inside. Locals and police pulled out the injured from the vehicle, but three of them died on the spot after the accident.

The police have registered a case against the driver of the container, Bablu Lahari Chauhan, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, and have arrested him. Traffic on the Ahmednagar-Pune highway was disrupted for some time after the accident, but resumed smoothly after the police removed the accident vehicles.
