Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray to Visit Pune Amid Party Defections

Pune, 3rd February 2025: Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) chief Uddhav Thackeray is set to visit Pune for two days in response to growing defections and to prepare for upcoming local body elections. The visit aims to strengthen the party’s position in the city and assess its current state.
During his stay, Thackeray plans to meet with local branch heads and discuss the party’s situation in Pune. The city’s Shiv Sena leadership, including key officials and corporators, will hold a meeting to plan the itinerary for Thackeray’s visit. Pune City Uddhav Sena Chief Sanjay More confirmed that Thackeray will also meet with some prominent personalities in Pune.
The visit comes in the wake of recent setbacks for the party in Pune. In the last assembly elections, the party contested only one out of eight seats in the city and lost that as well. Following that, five ex-corporators left the party for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), followed by former MLA Mahadev Babar meeting with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Several women party officials have also left the party.
Two days ago, a delegation led by city chief More met Uddhav Thackeray at Matoshree in Mumbai, requesting his attention to Pune city and district affairs. Thackeray assured them of his visit to assess the party’s ground-level functioning and to strategize for the upcoming municipal elections.
