Pune: Ajit Pawar Orders PMC to Take Over Health Centers in Newly Incorporated Villages by March

Pune, 3rd February 2025: Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Pune District’s Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar has directed officials to transfer health centres in newly incorporated villages to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) by March. This decision comes in response to concerns about neglected healthcare facilities in these areas.
The order was issued during a recent District Planning Committee meeting. Three primary health centres and 18 sub-centres from Haveli and Mulshi talukas are now within PMC limits following the incorporation of nearby villages. The Zilla Parishad had previously submitted a proposal for the transfer, but no decision had been made by the government.
The urgency is partly due to the rising number of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) cases in Pune, particularly in the newly incorporated areas. Local representatives raised concerns about difficulties in addressing health issues in these areas due to the unclear status of the health centres. Pawar instructed both Zilla Parishad and PMC officials to resolve the transfer by March.
PMC health department officials report that staff at these centres often disregard their instructions, creating management issues. Representatives expressed dissatisfaction with PMC’s lack of attention to GBS outbreaks in areas like Dhayari, Nanded, and Nandoshi.
Health centres to be transferred include primary health centres in Khadakwasla, Phursungi, and Wagholi, along with 18 sub-centres in locations such as Phursungi, Uruli Devachi, Wagholi, Lohgaon, Manjri Budruk, Nanded, and Nandoshi, among others.
