New Delhi, March 23, 2021: On Tuesday, the ruling Shiv Sena, surrounded by allegations about Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, hit back at the BJP, declaring that Gujarat IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt had also made serious allegations against the then Chief Minister of the state Narendra Modi. The Shiv Sena has raised the question of whether the Law Ministry will now take action on the basis of Bhatt’s letter.

Speaking to the media in Delhi, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said, ‘If a government is dropped on the basis of a letter written by a policeman, or the resignation of the Home Minister-Chief Minister, then I am making a mockery of the BJP and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, I would like to ask that IPS Officer Sanjeev Bhatt and another officer have written such letters against Gujarat government many times. Will you take action against the then Chief Minister or the current Chief Minister? Sanjeev Bhatt’s allegations were even more serious than Parambir Singh’s allegations. But you put Bhatt in jail.’

Former police officer Sanjeev Bhatt had alleged that Narendra Modi was a participant in the 2002 riots while he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Sanjeev Bhatt was sentenced to life imprisonment on 20 June 2019 for the death of a man in police custody in 1990.

Raut said that letters written by Bhatt should also be taken out and discussed. He said that Shiv Sena has that letter and whether Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad will act on it.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was accused of extorting Rs 100 crore on behalf of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh. Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad held a press conference in Bihar two days ago on this issue and said that there should be an impartial inquiry into the matter by an outside agency. The very next day NCP Chief Sharad Pawar made it clear that Anil Deshmukh does not need to resign as he has been charged and there is no evidence for these allegations.
