Shivaji Maharaj’s Birth Anniversary Celebrated in Pennsylvania with Cultural Performances and Costume Contest

Pittsburgh, 21 February 2023: On February 19, a gathering of approximately 150 Indians came together to pay homage to Shivaji Maharaj on the occasion of his birth anniversary. The event was organized by the Hindu Temple in Monroeville, Pittsburgh, USA.

Participants expressed their love for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and thirty children took part in an Indian costume competition. The children dressed up as iconic figures such as Krishna, Jijau, Jhansi’s queen, Bhagat Singh, and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The competition was judged by Bhagyashree Chippalkatti Patwari and Laxmi Mahajan.

During the event, Rahul Deshmukh created slide shows and stories about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, which ignited curiosity and respect for the historical figure in all attendees. Shweta Chakradeo-Dongre also brought color to the program by singing Ramdas Swami and Shivaji Maharaj songs. The event’s EC members, Sushil Shinde, Laxman Prajapt, and Rakesh Dhaka, lauded the children, and Saurabh Moharil provided excellent sound system support for the program.

The post-lunch program concluded on a high note, and attendees left with a newfound appreciation for the historical figure, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Overall, the event was a success, and it served as an excellent opportunity for the Indian community to come together and honor one of their heroes.
