Silver Jubilee Of Defence Sunday Conducted At 156 Years Old St Paul’s Church Pune

Camp, 14th August 2023: ST. Paul’s Church, Pune celebrated the Silver Jubilee of ‘Defence Sunday’ a day (Sunday) dedicated in a year for special prayer for the Defence Forces and Defence Establishments of our country in recognition of the services being rendered by defence personnel towards the security and the National Integrity of the country.
It was on 08 Aug 1999, when for the first time, few Brave hearts of 1/11 Gorkha Rifles were invited to ST. Pauls Church, Pune and felicitated over prayers and fellowship. Later during the Annual General Body meeting (AGM) held on 26 September 1999 and the congregation, it was decided to set aside one Sunday in a year as the Defence Sunday, a practice followed till date.

Lt Gen A K Singh, Army Commander, Southern Command graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He laid wreath at the Church, along with other dignitaries and veterans in the memory of all those bravehearts who have laid down their lives in service of the Nation. Special prayer for safety of our soldiers, sailors and pilots and all other persons associated with defence and defence establishment was conducted with representatives from all three services, veterans and other civil dignitaries.

Lt Gen A K Singh also addressed the august gathering and conveyed his gratitude to ST. Pauls’s Church for earmarking a special day “Defence Sunday” and for organising special prayer for the safety and well being of the defence personals and establishments.
