SIMS INTERNATIONAL LECTURE SERIES HOSTS SESSION ON “How AI is changing the media – A look at Malaysia”

Pune, 1st March 2025: Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (SIMS), Pune, through its esteemed International Lecture Series, continues to offer students a platform to engage with global experts and gain valuable insights into evolving business and leadership landscapes. This initiative, conceptualized by Brig. (Dr.) Rajiv Divekar, Director, SIMS & Dean, Faculty of Management, SIU, fosters meaningful discussions on contemporary challenges.

On February 26, 2025, SIMS hosted an enlightening session titled “How AI is Changing the Media – A Look at Malaysia”, featuring Dr. Jeyasushma Veeriah, Assistant Professor and Head of the Journalism Department at Xiamen University, Malaysia. The session was expertly moderated by Dr. Komal Chopra, Associate Professor at SIMS.

Dr. Jeyasushma provided an in-depth analysis of AI’s growing role in the media landscape, highlighting its applications in content creation, deepfake detection, automated responses, and data analytics. She illustrated how AI-driven sentiment analysis, multilingual translation, and audience engagement tools are reshaping media strategies in Malaysia, influencing brand perceptions and public discourse.

She also addressed the critical challenges of AI integration, particularly its role in misinformation. Stressing the need for responsible AI usage, she underscored the proactive measures media organizations are implementing to regulate AI-generated content. Concluding her session, she emphasized the importance of a balanced synergy between AI and human journalists to ensure ethical, credible, and impactful journalism in the future.

The session saw active participation from 100 attendees, who gained valuable perspectives on AI’s transformative role in media and its implications for the industry.
