SIMS INTERNATIONAL LECTURE SERIES HOSTS SESSION ON LEADERSHIP LESSONS FROM GAME OF THRONES

Pune, 27th January 2025: The International Lecture Series at Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (SIMS), Pune, conceptualized by Brig. (Dr.) Rajiv Divekar, Director, SIMS & Dean, Faculty of Management, SIU, continues to provide a platform for students to engage with global professional and gain valuable insights into contemporary business and leadership challenges.
On January 27, 2025, SIMS hosted an enriching guest lecture on “Leadership Lessons from Game of Thrones,” featuring Professor Fiona Moore, Professor of Business Anthropology at Royal Holloway, University of London. The session was moderated by Dr. Suruchi Pandey, Professor, SIMS.
During the lecture, Professor Moore analysed key leadership types and strategies depicted in Game of Thrones and connected them to real-world business and management scenarios. She delved into topics such as strategic decision-making, types of leaders, resilience in leadership, ethical dilemmas, and crisis management, drawing parallels between the fictional world of Westeros and corporate leadership challenges faced by management professionals today.
Using engaging examples, she examined how different leadership styles—from transformational to authoritarian—impact organizational success or failure. The discussion also highlighted the significance of adaptability, emotional intelligence, and political acumen in navigating complex business environments.
The session sparked enthusiastic discussions among 309 attendees, who explored the relevance of storytelling in leadership education, the role of power dynamics in corporate structures, and lessons on navigating uncertainty in high-stakes environments.
