Sinhagad Fort to Remain Closed on Friday, May 30, as Encroachment Removal Continues: Pune Forest Department

Pune, 29th May 2025: Tourists hoping to visit Sinhagad Fort will have to wait another day, as the encroachment removal drive on the historic site is set to continue on Friday, May 30. The fort will remain closed for public access for the second consecutive day, the Forest Department confirmed.
“The encroachment removal process on Sinhagad Fort will continue tomorrow as well. Therefore, Sinhagad Fort will remain closed for tourists on Friday,” said Tushar Chavan, Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF), Pune.
The operation, which began earlier this week, had to be temporarily halted due to fading daylight. “Some part of the action is still pending as per our plan. Due to darkness, we paused the work for the day. We hope to complete the process by tomorrow afternoon,” Chavan added.
The encroachment removal is part of a larger effort by the Forest Department to preserve the ecological and historical integrity of the popular hill fort, which sees a heavy footfall of trekkers and tourists, especially during weekends and monsoon season.
Officials have urged citizens to cooperate with the temporary closure and avoid planning visits to the fort until further notice.
