Jammu, September 4, 2020: Army Chief General MM Naravane is on a visit to Ladakh amid renewed tensions with China. During the visit, he reviewed the preparations of the army. The Army Chief said that the situation on the Line of Actual Control (LAC), which marks the border with China, in East Ladakh is ‘slightly tense’ and the Indian Army has made full preparations to face the challenge of China. Proper deployment of the army has been done in the area and officers and Jawans are capable of facing all kinds of situations, he said.

On the second day of the two-day visit in Leh, the Army Chief said that at present, Army officers and Jawans in the forward area are on a mission to face challenges and every possible step has been taken to strengthen security in view of China’s antics on the Line of Actual Control. In such a situation, the security apparatus will remain intact.

India has increased the deployment of additional forces and weapons in the region. The situation is tense due to failed attempts by China to unilaterally change the status quo on the southern bank of Pangong Lake.

Meeting with field commanders
The Army Chief also held a meeting with the Corps Commander of the 14 Corps and other field commanders on the current situation along the Line of Actual Control by thwarting the Chinese army’s incursion near Pangong Lake. The two-day visit of the Army Chief has boosted the morale of the troops in East Ladakh.

On Monday, the Indian Army reported that the Chinese Army carried out provocative military activities in a ‘unilateral’ attempt to change the status quo on the southern bank of Pangong Lake on the night of 29-30 August. However, the Indian troops thwarted Chinese move. After this incident, the Indian Army has increased its vigil in the area.
