Skywalk In Lonavala Among 406 Tourist Destinations In Pune District, Zilla Parishad To Boost Tourism

Pune, 19th June 2021: “Prepare a comprehensive plan for the tourism development of Pune district and study the 406 tourist destinations identified by the Zilla Parishad, think about which facilities can be set up there,” Deputy Chief Minister and District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar instructed the officials today.

A Pune District Tourism Development Review Meeting was held under the chairmanship of Pawar at the Divisional Commissioner’s Office. Among the existing tourist spots, officials have planned a skywalk in Lonavala with a cost of Rs 35 crores.

MP Supriya Sule, Vandana Chavan, MLA Ashok Pawar, Sanjay Jagtap, Sunil Tingre, Sunil Shelke, Chetan Tupe, Siddharth Shirole, Dilip Mohite as well as Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao, Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Patil, PMRDA Chief Executive Officer Suhas Divase, District Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh, ZP Chief Executive Officer Ayush Prasad and senior officers of various departments were present.

Deputy Chief Minister Pawar said that the project initiated by MP Supriya Sule and Vandana Chavan is commendable and “I will try my best as the Guardian Minister of the district to get maximum funds for it”.

“There are many places for tourism in Pune district. Tourist places should have parking arrangements besides other required facilities. Efforts should be made to declare other talukas as tourist destinations like Junnar taluka,” he said.

Land ownership and working manpower of 406 tourist places in the district, planned innovative tourism activities at Lonavala, tourist places in Pimpri-Chinchwad, development of Fort Sinhagad, erection of snack centre for encroachment holders at Bhimashankar, proposed measures for encroachment holders, special tourism area in the district, tourism development, agri-tourism, job creation from tourism, development of forts tourism, etc. were reviewed in the meeting.

Presentations were made by Tourism Development, Archaeology Department, Zilla Parishad, Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and Additional District Collector Vijay Singh Deshmukh.

The tourist spots include 210 religious, 18 forts, 34 dams, 18 picnic points, 13 waterfalls, 41 historical places, 12 trekking points, two sanctuaries, 12 heritage and 25 other places.
