Soldier from Pune martyred in Kashmir

Pune: A 32-year-old Army Jawan from Fursungi in Pune was martyred in Jammu & Kashmir on Saturday during a terrorist attack on Army convoy.

The soldier has been identified as Gunner Sourabh Farate, a resident of Ganga Nagar locality in Fursungi, about 12 km from Pune.  The last rites will be performed at Bhekrainagar crematorium on Monday.

Sourabh is survived by his parents, wife and twin daughters. His brother is also a soldier.

Sourabh had come home on two months leave for the first birthday celebrations of his daughters on 24 October. He had joined duty eight days back.

Sourabh’s father Nandkumar Farate said, “Since childhood Sourabh wanted to do something for the country. And when he got the opportunity, he joined the Army.”

His father in law Manohar Bhole added, “Its time government takes concrete step to reign in the menace of terrorism. There should be tit for tat action by the Army after this attack.”

Farate and two others  Naik (Gnr) Ratheesh C, 35, a resident of Kotolipram, Kannur district in Kerala, and Gunner Shashikant Pandey (24), resident of Zharian, Dhanbad district in Jharkhand, were killed when two motorcycle borne militants opened fire on Army convoy Kadladal area of Pampore town on Srinagar outskirts in Pulwama district on Saturday.
