Soor Mahatee Mahotsav to Pay a Musical Tribute to Eminent Singer Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe

Pune, 6th November 2024: Atul Khandekar’s Soor Mahatee Foundation, is all set to organize ‘Soor Mahatee Mahotsav’ on 16th and 17th November 2024, to commemorate Dr Veena Sahasrabuddhe’s legacy in Indian Classical Music. Atul Khandekar, who is a renowned vocalist and a disciple of the late Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe, will be hosting this two-day festival from 5.30 pm onwards at Yashwantrao Chavan Auditorium, Kothrud, Pune. The festival is free and open to all on a first-come, first-served basis, although some seats will be reserved for invitees.

During the mahotsav, the Soor Mahatee Foundation will also present a special honour to Vidushi Asha Khadilkar for her distinguished music career, as well as to Vishal Bhagwat for his commendable work in providing home healthcare services. Both awards will be conferred on 17th November

Providing details about the festival, Atul Khandekar said, “We are organizing this festival to honour my guru, Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe. Through this event, we aim to celebrate her invaluable contributions to classical music and to continue her legacy of promoting and preserving the musical tradition passed down from Pt. Vishnu Digambar Paluskar. We aim to bring this tradition closer to music enthusiasts and students.”

The first day of the festival will open with a performance by Shamika Bhide Korgaonkar, a disciple of Vidushi Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, and Swarangini Marathe, granddaughter of Pt. Ram Marathe. Following this, renowned singer Ambrish Das will present a recital, and the evening will conclude with a sitar performance by Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan.

The second day will begin with a recital by Atul Khandekar. A Kathak performance by acclaimed dancer Sharvari Jemenis will follow this. The evening and the festival will conclude with a performance by esteemed vocalist Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar.

The festival will witness accompaniment by distinguished musicians such as Leeladhar Chakradev, Soumitra Kshirsagar, Niranjan Lele, Shriram Hasabnis, Manoj Desai, Dhaval Joshi, Vaishnavi Deshpande, Rugved Deshpande, Parth Tarabadkar, Nikhil Phatak, Pt. Mukesh Jadhav, and Tabla maestro Pt. Suresh Talwalkar. Swanand Patwardhan will be the master of ceremonies
